Business Insider and Indeed Spotlight WB Surf Camp
Out of millions of U.S. businesses, WB Surf Camp was selected by Business Insider and the hiring platform Indeed for a series highlighting small and medium-sized companies.
WILMINGTON, N.C. — [Date] — WB Surf Camp was recently featured in a three-part Talent Insider series hosted by athlete, author, and entrepreneur Gabrielle Reece. Titled The Hiring Journey, the series explores how businesses approach hiring, with WB Surf Camp featured in the inaugural episode.
For the program, Reece and the Talent Insider team traveled to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, home of WB Surf Camp. There, founder Rick Civelli discussed using Indeed to connect with candidates whose personal values align with the company’s mission.
“Finding people is everything,” Civelli said. “That is the struggle for all small businesses right now. Indeed does an amazing job of helping us find the right people. As we continue to grow and hire more staff, the return on investment has been tenfold.”
The feature highlights the recruitment of Bailey Kaufman, who relocated from New York to North Carolina to join the WB team as Program Coordinator. Kaufman discovered WB Surf Camp on Indeed, drawn by its focus on environmental education and youth engagement.
“I want to try and tie my passions and what I love to do into my career,” Kaufman said. “WB was a company that focused on environmental education and inspiring the youth, so it’s a company that shared the same values as me, but also had a real serious mission.”
WB’s Operations Director Deaton Wright noted the platform’s role. “I don't know if we would have ever found Bailey without having that platform and being able to do things virtually.”
For Civelli, shared purpose is central. “We spent a lot of time in Bailey's interview process diving into 'What's her why?'” he said. “Our ‘why’ is taking care of kids and teenagers, connecting them to the ocean, building their confidence, and bridging the gap with their own anxieties in life.”
Reece pointed to the broader impact. “When you can use a platform like Indeed to hire people like Bailey,” she said, “your business becomes more successful, and you can do more for your community. It’s a powerful model.”
